The last time Britain had an extravagant Royal Wedding was 1981, when Prince Charles married Princess Dianna at St. Paul’s Cathedral. The wedding was viewed on national television creating a movement in the media world. Reporters, Photographers, Writers, Columnist’s, were now able to report live to the entire world about this historic moment. There was no Facebook page to write on, no twitter account to tweet, and no YouTube page to be viewed.

It is exactly 30 years later and now it’s Prince William’s turn to marry Princess Catherine Middleton. Fire up the computer as 2.5 billion people viewed the Royal Wedding Live on YouTube. Was the T.V. in all of these households broken? No, but statistics show that computers are more accessible to individuals then a television. The wedding was broad casted on the Royal Channel, which is the official YouTube channel of the British Monarchy. It wasn’t just YouTube that fans of the Royal Wedding visited. The Clarence House (home of the prince & princess) Twitter account was reportedly tweeting throughout the entire wedding with minute to minute coverage.

royal wedding 1 2 3Does the British Monarchy really have a Flickr account? The answer is yes; it has been posting pictures of the London crowds as well as wedding photos of the couple. Was your invitation to the wedding lost in the mail? Don’t be sad. You can still sign the virtual guestbook on Facebook! Leave a comment to the bride and groom wishing them well.  But wait, did Foursquare hop on the band wagon as well? Yes they did! Foursquare offered special points to anyone who checked in from the UK during the wedding.

If you didn’t know that Social Media played such a huge role in events, well now you do. Social Media is the modern way for Networking, Promoting, Marketing, and Advertising. It is safe to say that the world is moving in unison with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Foursquare, and more.
