Online marketing has taken over as the preferred platform in business promotion. Websites like Google, Yahoo, Bing, Facebook and many others offer advertising to help small and medium-sized businesses (as well as large corporations) expand, reaching thousands of people a day.
Senior Social Media Account Manager Nick Tortora at DrivenLocal said, “In today’s society, instead of using the Yellow Pages, Pennysaver or even print advertisements, people are turning to Google, Bing, Facebook and other online outlets to find information they are looking for.”
More businesses are turning to online advertising because that’s where the majority of people get their information, as Nick Tortora pointed out. Fewer people are opening up the Yellow Pages, flipping to the “Veterinarian” section and skimming the list for the closest one to their home. They are, however, pulling out their smart phone, typing in “Long Island Vet,” and pulling up pages upon pages of offices within minutes of their location.
The Wall StreetJournal released an article yesterday, informing the public of Facebook’s latest expansion incentive. “Facebook will unveil a plan this week to offer free $50 advertising credits to up to 200,000 small businesses,” reported TWSJ. This will give small businesses the opportunity to build their own site and get exposure without the financial pressure.

“Search engine marketing (SEM) allows people to invest and monitor their return on investment. They are able to track where their every dollar is spent and how it is creating revenue for their business. Social Media allows companies to brand their name and ideas with unlimited potential,” says Nick Tortora.
Internet ad spending is expected to increase world-wide by roughly 17% this year, according to TWSJ, and total 16% of media spending. In addition, US ad spending on social media alone is expected to increase 61% this year to $1.6 billion, according to Forrester Research Inc. and TWSJ.
According to Nick Tortora and most businesses, “whether you are looking for directional advertising or branding advertising, the internet is the solution for all businesses.”
