Why You Should Make The Switch To Responsive Web Design

If you haven’t already made the switch to responsive web design, now is the time to do it. Having a responsive website means that you will have one domain with one set of code that is styled to automatically resize based on the device a user is viewing it in. This type of design allows your website to be user-friendly on desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc.

As of January 2014, only about a third of small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) have developed a mobile strategy. This number is not on par with the increasing amount of smartphone and tablet usage over the past few years. Since 2010, smartphone penetration in the U.S. has increased from just 20% to a projected 55% in 2015, which amounts to over 156 million mobile Internet users. Even more notable is the fact that 94% of these users report searching for local information on their phones. These local searches are being performed often, and are increasingly becoming the preferred method over desktop computers.

If those numbers aren’t compelling enough, Google is now using responsive, mobile-friendly design as a ranking factor in its search results. You may have noticed over the past few weeks that Google awards a “mobile-friendly” badge to user focused websites that are easy to use on mobile devices. Having one of these badges is a great way to get more potential customers to visit your website instead of your competitors’.
